Georgetown, a consensus No. 6 in both major 5A polls, will challenge top-ranked Cedar Park, standing atop both the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches and Texas Girls Coaches Association listings, at 6:30 p.m. Friday on the Lady Timberwolves playing surface. Both teams are 5-0 in the district, Cedar Park is 11-1 on the season with the only loss has been to 6A Cibolo Steele, 56-54, on Dec. 13. Since that setback, they have won nine straight starts. Georgetown is 15-2 for the year and also has won nine straight since a last-second loss to Waco La Vega in Bellmead on December 1.

To say that the Lady Timberwolves and Lady Eagles have dominated the 25-5A race might be an understatement. Donny Ott’s Cedar Park girls are winning their district games by 41.6 points a game — Marble Falls, 53-1l; Leander Glenn, 63-35; East View, 87-36; Leander, 75-23; and Libert Hill, 57-21. The Liberty Hill game was the Timberwolf’s last start on Dec. 31.nPlaying the same five district opponents, GHS has posted a victory margin of 24.6 points a game — Glenn, 59-34; Marble Falls, 59-39; East View, 47-35; Leander, 57-24; and Liberty Hill, 55-26. Both Georgetown and Cedar Park have had games with Leander Rouse postponed by the Covid-19 quarantines. The varsity game — at the unusual hour of 6:30 p.m. — will be the only contest as both the freshman and junior varsity games will not be played because of Cedar Park Covid-19 quarantines.

As for the Lady Eagles’ win over Liberty Hill at Eagle Gym on Tuesday, GHS coach Rhonda Farney said. “We liked our game plan going into the game.” However, she was less than pleased that the Lady Eagles were outrebounded, 9-5 on the offensive glass. Georgetown scored eight of the first 10 points, including five by junior guard Jacqui Spencer and never really looked back after the Lady Panthers closed the game to three points at 8-5. A basket-and-one by senior Lauren Woodard regained the momentum and the Lady Eagles closed the quarter with a 19-9. GHS outscored LH, 20-5, in the second quarter, building a 25-point halftime edge (39-14) at halftime. The Lady Eagles outscored the Lady Panthers, 16-12, in the second half. Liberty Hill cut the final margin by five points in the final 39 seconds. Georgetown’s largest lead was 34 points at 55-21 on a 3-pointer by junior point guard Sam Folsom with 1:35 to go.

The Lady Eagles’ defense limited the Lady Panthers, now 1-4 in the district, to 23 percent from the floor (10 of 23), while the offense hit 58 percent (21 of 36), including five of nine beyond the arc. While Liberty Hill had two players in double figures, GHS’s 6-4 junior center topped scoring with 11 points. Spencer, senior Jordyn Stout, and 6-1 junior center Sheila Lee had nine points each. Although scoring just five-points, Georgetown senior point guard Graci Harris had nine assists. The Lady Eagles took a 27-18 edge on the boards as Williams pulled down seven rebounds and blocked three shots. Junior guard Ella Vickers and her position mate Spencer each had four of GHS’ 16 steals,

Georgetown’s JV and Freshman Blue improved their District 25-5A records to 5-0 Tuesday night with one-sided victories over Liberty Hill.  The JV ran its season record to 17-0 with a 57-26 victory and the Freshman Blue worked its season mark to 12-2 with a 39-17 win. Coach Corey Cunningham’s JV had three players — Brooke White, 14; Erica Ramthun, 11; and Taylor Meyners, 11 — in double figures. White and Ramthun both made three 3-points. The Lady Eagles took a 32-12 halftime lead and then finished off the victory by outscoring the Lady Panthers, 25-14, in the second half. In the freshman contest, coach Katie Youngblood’s first-year Lady Eagles collected 28 of their points from inside performers with Lucy Waring and Aspen Mayo scoring 14 and 10, respectively, along with four by Ava Linyard.  Guard Caroline Rutledge added seven points. The Blue led 23-10 at the half and held Liberty Hill to seven points in the second half — all seven in the third quarter. “I was so pleased with the freshman team and how they played together,” Farney said. “I continued to be pleased with the JV.”
