Georgetown senior post/forward Jaelyn Knight is a repeat selection on the Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 5A All-State Team and the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches All-Region III-5A Team. The 5-foot-11 Knight, who helped GHS to a perfect 12-0 run in District 18-5A and a trip to the area round of the state playoffs as a senior, also was named the seven-team alignment Offensive Player of the Year in addition to being a first-team all-district choice in back-to-back seasons. She was honorable mention all-district as a sophomore.
“Jaelyn has been a pleasure to coach and has always embodied the highest work ethic and standards,” GHS head coach Rhonda Farney said. “She has represented the Lady Eagle program with competitiveness and class. We wish her the best of luck at Oklahoma City University; she will be missed!” In addition to on-court honors, Knight and senior guard Ali Isbell were names to the TGCA Class 5A Academic All-State team. Isbell, daughter of GHS tennis coach Suzanne Isbell, will continue her education and basketball career at Hendrix College in Conway, Ark. In Knight’s three-season varsity career with the Lady Eagles, Georgetown compiled a composite 78-28 record, including a 40-4 district mark (15-1, 13-3 and 12-0). They reached the regional finals her sophomore season. Knight and Manor junior De’Maya Young were the only 18-5A players named to the TGCA 5A All-State team. Knight is the daughter of Robyn and Jeffrey Knight.
TGCA CLASS 5A BASKETBALL ALL-STATE
The Texas Girls Coaches Association selects All-State teams in basketball for conferences 1A through 6A. Selections are made by the TGCA All-State Committee at their annual meeting during the UIL State Basketball Tournament from nominations submitted by TGCA member coaches. The Committee members are selected by their peers during the regional meetings at Summer Clinic in July each year. The head varsity coach of a school must be a member of TGCA in good standing before the November 1st membership deadline for honors each year to be eligible to nominate athletes or receive honors. Up to 40 athletes per conference may be selected by the Committee.
