Down 15-12 at the half, Georgetown outscored Burnet, 36-9, in the second half to claim a 48-24 victory over the Bulldogs in a non-district game Friday night at Eagle Gym.
The victory improved the Lady Eagles’ season record to 4-3 going into Monday’s 1:30 p.m. matinee with Victoria East at Eagle Gym.
In the comeback by coach Rhonda Farney’s Lady Eagles, GHS outscored Burnet, 19-5, in the third quarter and 17-4 in the fourth quarter.
“We did not play very well the first half, but we turned it on in the second half,” Farney said.
Neither team shot the ball well. The Georgetown defense allowed Burnet just six successes in 33 attempts (18 percent) from the floor, including only three makes in 21 3-point attempts.
The Lady Eagles were somewhat warmer, making 15 of 50 shots (30 percent), but also had a poor night at the free-throw line (12 of 25).
Georgetown junior guard Ali Isbell and Burnet’s Marissa Escamilla were the game’s only double-digit scorers with 10 points each.
The Lady Eagles posted a  31-14 edge on the boards with sophomore McCall Hampton pulling down a game-high nine rebounds and junior Jaelyn Knight adding eight.
The Georgetown defense recorded 16 steals with senior Maddie Vickers and Hampton leading the way with four and three, respectively.
In sub-varsity action with Victoria East on Monday, the JV and Freshmen Blue will play at noon. The JV White, fresh off two victories Friday in the East View 9B Tournament, will face Copperas Cove at 10 a.m.
After playing Victoria East, the Lady Eagles will celebrate Thanksgiving when they travel to Houston Friday for a 1 p.m. game with Houston Wheatley at the Delmar Fieldhouse, site of the Region III-5A Tournament.
Megan Herring paced the GHS Freshman White to a 30-4 win over Copperas Cove and a 35-22 win over Leander Glenn with point totals of 16 and 18 points, respectively.
The GHS JV and Freshman Blue also played in tournaments at East View on Thursday and Saturday. Those results will be published with the results of the Victoria East games.
On the sub-varsity performances, Farney said, ” I have been very proud of our sub-varsity teams and how they have played in the East View Tournament.”
